User Agreement

This page sets out the agreement between the operator of the Lichen app ("we") and any moderator installing or using it on a subreddit ("you").

1. Scope

Lichen is a mod tool. Anyone interacting with it is expected to be acting as a moderator of the subreddit where the app is installed and to be doing so within the bounds of Reddit's Moderator Code of Conduct.

2. Capabilities

  1. Lichen periodically reads the moderation log, mod queue, modmail counters, and rules of the subreddit it is installed on.
  2. Lichen relays a copy of those reads to a private backend operated by the same mod team, where the data is presented as a dashboard.
  3. Lichen can carry out moderator actions (approve, remove, ban, mute, lock, distinguish, flair, reply, modmail reply) when explicitly told to by an authorized dashboard user.
  4. Lichen takes no public-facing action on its own. Every visible action originates from a deliberate mod decision.

3. Restrictions

  1. Don't use Lichen on a subreddit you don't moderate.
  2. Don't use Lichen to mass-ban, mass-remove, or vote-brigade.
  3. Don't share dashboard access with people who aren't part of the subreddit's mod team.
  4. Don't reverse-engineer the relayed message format or attempt to inject commands into the backend.

4. Service quality

Best effort, no guarantees. The dashboard's view of the queue may lag the live state by several minutes; do not rely on it as the source of truth. The operator may pause, patch, or withdraw the app at any time without notice.

5. Termination

The subreddit's mod team can uninstall the app at any time via the subreddit's apps settings; doing so immediately stops new data collection.
